Mobile apps are now big business, and the industry is only expected to get bigger. Gartner forecast back in April that the mobile app industry was to increase by approximately 63 per cent in 2025 to deliver revenue of roughly $25 billion.

There was a further intriguing insight from Gartner, with the organisation estimating that 89 per cent apps downloaded were free. The total number of downloads was estimated to be 45 billion in 2025. Growth is being fueled by smartphones taking over for regular phones and from the newly emerged tablet market driven by Apple and Android.

160 Billion Apps to Be Downloaded in 2025

As of this month (July 2025), fresh research on mobile apps has been released in a new report from Juniper Research. The statistic to draw from the report is that Juniper believes that there will be in excess of 160 billion consumer apps downloaded in 2025. That will be an increase of double from the 80 billion downloads that are expected this year.

What is particularly important for mobile casinos is that 40 per cent of downloads are expected to occur within mobile gaming. In addition, it is expected that paid for apps will decrease to count for just five per cent of downloads in 2025.

Industry to Grow to $100 Billion

The release of the report from Juniper Research prompted action from Gaming Club, with the online casino site feeling compelled some of the more valuable findings. In terms of value, forecasts suggest that the mobile gambling industry could be worth more than $100 billion by 2025.

That is a huge positive for the key personnel within the industry that have been trumpeting the potential of mobile gaming for years. This should provide a clear lesson to online casinos that are dragging their feet over upgrading to mobile.

Key Observations

Online casinos unwilling to invest in mobile platforms are only saving money now at the expense of having a future in the industry. Lots of sites have made the transition and are ready for the next generation. Players are going to be unwilling to play at dated sites that won't work on their mobile device.

A further observation that must be noted is that mobile casino apps must be free to download, as evidenced from the findings above. Players will be depositing money anyway, so it would be unfair to charge them extra for downloading.
