The mGaming Summit was held a couple of months ago in May. A lot of valuable discussion took place at the summit, with plenty of useful insights emerging from the participants. With a couple months having passed between now and then, it is important to look back and recap the most important lessons to be learned.

Mobile gaming is an ever-evolving marketplace, with technology, operators and players all exerting their influence as every day passes. To follow will be some of the most important topics covered during mGaming, as well as analysis where appropriate.

Some Mobile Casinos Shunning All but Apple

When interviewed at mGaming, a spokesperson explained that they had not trouble dealing with multiple mobile operating systems and platforms. While that answer initially read well, the spokesperson went on to explain that they had no trouble with their Roller Disco app because it was only developed for iOS – not any other.

By taking such an exclusive approach, however, Apple-only mobile casinos are majorly limiting the scope of their potential markets. Samsung is now the largest producer of mobile devices in the world, which in turn makes Android the most prevalent operating system. Operators that don't cater to multiple mobile platforms stand to lose out to a huge extent.

Dealing with Multiple Platforms

It was refreshing to hear that some mobile gaming developers and operators were trying to deal with the multiplatform issue. Bet365 and AlchemyBet have decided to focus on streamlining its mobile platform for HTML5, shunning Flash in the process. That is a solid tactic based on the fact that Apple does not permit Flash on its mobile devices.

Developers have identified it as the best platform to provide cross-functionality for mobile games. There needs to be a more efficient way forward in mobile gaming software that ties all devices together in the development process.

Mobile Payment Methods

Mobile payments were discussed at length during the summit, helping to provide some valuable insight as to the behaviour of players. A representative of Bally Technologies explained that younger mobile players are happy to just deposit with their credit or debit cards and give no thought to security concerns.

However, it is the older players that are more likely to turn to alternative payment methods so as to increase their financial security. The spokesman also commented that players seem to feel more secure making payments using their tablet because of their chunky feel compared to smartphones.
