In May, it was announced by the CFO of MGM Resorts International, Dan D'Arrigo, that the organisation was still to make a decision on the viability of an online poker site specifically for the state of Nevada. The main issue behind approving such a decision is that Nevada is only one of the 50 states that constitute the continental Unites States. D'Arrigo is not enthused by the possibility of only having access to such a small portion of the country's players, hence why an approval has yet to be given. On the other hand, D'Arrigo has not been quick to deliver a negative response to the prospect.
What is particularly notable about the situation is that online poker was legalised back at the start of 2025 in February. MGM Resorts International has sat on the idea and not elected to move forth. Specifically, D'Arrigo does not want be the 'first or a pioneer' or pioneer in Nevada. But that crown is already reserved for another, considering that ultimatepoker went live after being launched by Station Casinos in May. Clearly there are no qualms from Station Casinos as to whether or not to move into the online gambling market.
In terms of financials, analysts have speculated that the online gambling market in Nevada could be worth between $250 million and $500 million every year. Despite dragging its feet, MGM is primed to make the leap. The gambling giant and Boyd Gaming have previously worked with online entities such as party for the provision of software based games and additional services. All things considered, MGM does consider online gaming to be a lucrative opportunity, but not until operating standards have been implemented.

Nevada has not been the only state to legalise online gambling, with New Jersey and Delaware also in the final stages of addressing political red tape. New Jersey appears to be a hot potential market to keep an eye on, at least according to analysts. It has been forecast that the online market in New Jersey could be worth anywhere from $500 million to $1 billion annually, dwarfing the above figures for Nevada. The potential for New Jersey is because the state's population is significantly larger than that of Nevada, based on the fact New York is just next door.
